  1. I am from Texas but sadly I don't live there anymore. It's a great place to live. Austin is a fantastic city. Live music, good food. UT is a highly recognized school. You will have some of the best food you can ever have. San Antonio is 90 mins from Austin and that's another great place to see. I lived in San Antonio for almost 3 years and I loved every minute of it. I really don't think that you would find anything wrong with Texas. Don't go into the mindset that it's all redneck types and country music. I would say go visit Austin and see what you think. Head to 6th street for some eats and live music. Good luck!
  2. buy some boots before you head down there. Otherwise they'll stare at you and tell you that they dont like your kind in their city.
  3. Not cheap in Austin but there are alot of smaller towns around the area that are cheaper.LIke Smithville and Caldwell. I live in Texas and I have visited Iowa I think you will like it here. Be sure and check out Wimberly Texas the river there is crystal clear. Lots of busy rivers here where people go to float and swim. Tourist attraction for sure! LOL!
  4. prices are cheap but payments are high. state property taxes are 2.5 to 3.5 ouch. That is changing next year. Most people will see a drop in payment of 50-150 dollars/mo. UT is hard to get into and even harder to stay in. You have to give 100% to that school to make it. Austin is liberal. the boot thing the other guy said was a little wierd.
  5. The University of Texas is a GREAT school and I wouldn't say that real estate is cheap. It is one of the more expensive places to buy a home. The Houston area is much less expensive and only 2 1/2 hours away. 6. Have you looked on a map? Austin is like so far from anything. I took a plane once from Dallas to College Station and the terrain as we left Dallas was pretty much not touched all the way. I just starred out the window in aw of the beauty of the land, but no people... Have you thought of Texas A&M? It is very good. My husband’s parents met there and became Veterinarians. He says the college is one of the best. When I was there you could tell it is really a college town. Everyone I visited said they could here the football games from their homes. Good Place, Austin too.
